Members of the CCC club that went on the impromptu cruise Sunday 10/22/06 and had a great time. Departure time was 11:00am, and of course, we left right on schedule - 11:20AM. The Duke led us up the canyon to Detroit where we stopped for a quick bite to eat (took over an hour) at the Cedars restaurant, followed by a 12 minute trip further up-river to Marion Forks restaurant where we had dessert. From there, we continued east until we hit Santiam Pass, made the hair-pin turn to the right, and followed the McKenzie River highway west until we came out at Springfield. From there it was a quickie rest stop, and the end of the trail home back to Salem up the I-5. The weather? For those on the trip who had convertibles, it was top down all the way. The scenery and change-of-color on the deciduous trees was absolutley great! It was definitely better to have been a passenger on this trip and be able to watch the scenery quietly pass by. (Although it really hurt to have to drive the Vette through the forest terrain and somewhat winding road on a beautiful fall day! In fact, there was one place just past Marion Forks where we were able to travel about one-half mile in just a few short seconds - what a blast!). This was definitely an impromptu trip, as decision as to where to head off to next were made at literally after each stop. All who travelled that day had an enjoyable time, and in fact, want to do it again! So, as a Activities Member of the CCC club, we will be going on a similar trip next year, maybe in Sept. It may be an extended trip. (I'm thinking Sept., as this is when the salmon are running upstream, and we can watch them from the outdoor patio at Marion Forks while fine dining. Should this type of trip come to fruition next year, we will make sure Everyone knows of it in advance. See you next meeting.
